Emilia’s passion for music began when she started piano lessons at the age of 4. Besides playing piano, she also loves to sing and dance. In high school, she learned how to play the flute and fell in love with it. She started taking... flute lessons in Grade 9 and that is when she dreamed of becoming a music teacher.
Emilia continued to follow her passion and studied flute with Amy Hamilton at Wilfrid Laurier University and received her Bachelor of Music Education. A year later, she completed her teaching degree at York University. Emilia began her teaching career with the Toronto District School Board at Timberbank Junior Public School as a music specialist. During her time at Timberbank, she taught Orff, Band and Choir. She also directed a number of musicals for the school Spring Concerts. Her excellent Orff Ensembles and Choirs performed at Massey Hall, in the participation of the TDSB’s Spring Festival Concert. Four years ago she became the instructional leader in the music department and currently, she is the lead teacher in the Music and the Arts for the Toronto District School Board. Emilia has been conducting the TDSB's All City String Orchestra and Choral Artistry Choir for the last three years. This is the first year for Emilia to join the UTC as a vocal director and she is extremely excited to work with such a creative and talented team.
