Doug Manning - Music Director

Doug’s first training in instrumental music began at Milneford Junior High School, where, because his arms were too short, he was taken off trombone and given the tuba. This watershed event marked the beginning of a long and happy relationship with bands and orchestras. Doug’s studies continued at the University of Toronto, where he received his Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Education. In 1979, he began his teaching career as an itinerant music instructor for Toronto Board of Education, and came to York Region District School Board in 1990. Now "retired", Doug is currently music director for Markham Concert Band, Pickering Community Concert Band, and Unionville Theatre Company. He has served UTC since 1999 and has received two Theas awards in his role as Musical Director. Many of the UTC pit orchestra members also play in the Markham Concert Band. Doug would like to invite all the supportive UTC audience members to give Markham Concert band a listen. Let us entertain YOU! This season’s shows are “Canada 150” (Oct. 15 - no charge at the door, donations gratefully accepted with funds going to the Markham Public Library); A Seasonal Celebration (Nov. 26), with a variety of Christmas music, sing-alongs and special guest appearances; March 4th 2018 - "Rockin from ABBA to Zeppelin" - a vocalist rock themed show.
